Bandai-Asahi National Park: Adatara peaks
Adatara peaks consist of, from the north, Mt. Onitsura-yama, Mt. Minowa-san, Mt. Kanayama, Mt. Adatara-yama and Mt. Osho-yama, and they stand in straight line about 9 kilometer. Mt. Adatara-yama (1,700 meter), the highest peak, is famous for being referred in Kotaro Takamura's anthology "Chieko-sho", and this perhaps accounted for its characteristic that many female climbers visit there. As visitors can enjoy relatively comfortable climbing and beautiful panoramic view, in addition to "Kurogane-goya", a lodge with spa on the top of Mt. Kanayama, Adatara peaks are very popular from climbers to the public. It is convenient to start climbing from Oku-dake (Nihonmatsu City) where a gondola lift runs.
You should be careful around the peak, as there are many steep hills, and the surface of a mountain is rough. Numa-no-daira Crater (it is off-limits around the crater now) which successively erupted in 1899 and 1900 opens a peach bloom colored weird mouth in the southwest of Mt. Kanayama.
