Shirakawa Daruma

The history of the Shirakawa Daruma dates back about 300 years. Every decoration on the daruma’s face has a meaning: their eyebrows are cranes, their beards are shaped like tortoises, their beard made of pine and plum branches – all of these things are symbols of good luck! Visitors to Shirakawa City can try out Daruma's painting - design your own Daruma during your next visit!
