This year, Aizu Festival will be held from September 22 to September 24 2018.
This year represents 150 years passing since the end of the Boshin War (otherwise known as ‘the Meiji Restoration’, which restored imperial rule to the emperor of Japan and signified the end of the shogunate).
This year’s Aizu Festival will include a memorial for the spirits of those who died during the Boshin War.
The most spectacular event of the Aizu Festival is the Aizu Clan School Parade. During this parade, local people dress in traditional samurai wear and march around the city to commemorate the alliance of the Ouu Clans.
