This area is well-known for its delicious seafood & amazing interactive environmental aquarium Aquamarine Fukushima.
Here’s a suggested day-trip in Iwaki (travelling by public transport):
09:30 Leave Iwaki Station by bus heading for Kawahira
09:48 Arrive at Shiramizu Amidado
Shiramizu amidado, Temple and Japanese Garden Sightseeing.
12:07 Take bus back to Iwaki Station (arriving at 12:33)
12:50 Take bus to Onahama Information Office (arriving at 13:27)
13:00 Arrive at Aquamarine Fukushima (10 min walk from Onahama Information Office Bus Stop)
13:00-15:00 Aquamarine Fukushima Sightseeing, including time for a seafood curry lunch at Aqua Cross (Aquamarine Fukushima’s own restaurant).
Stroll through Aquamarine’s impressive glass tunnel, which represents the meeting of the Japanese & the Kurile Currents that occur off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.
This huge display that represents the border between these two ocean currents holds 2050 tons of water! Come and meet the ocean creatures that dwell in these 2 ocean currents & countless other habitats too at Aquamarine Fukushima!
When you spend a few hours at Aquamarine Fukushima getting to meet all the aquatic creatures – and a fennec fox family too if you’re lucky! – make sure to stop in at the following areas during feeding time:
13:00 Cormorant Feeding Time
14:30 Japanese Current ‘Current Rip’ Tank Feeding Time
15:00 Goma Seal Feeding Time
15:30 Eurasian Otter Feeding Time
Unique egg-shaped kids’ area within Aquamarine Fukushima. Kids can experience fishing and even eat the fish they manage to catch after staff prepare it!
15:00-15:50 Iwaki Coast Cruise
If you leave Aquamarine Fukushima a little early, take a relaxing 50-minute ride on the coast of Iwaki. Take in the beautiful ocean scenery, and even feed seagulls from the cruise boat if you’re feeling generous! The boats leave every hour from Lalamew Tourism & Product Center.
The last boat leaves at 15:00, so it might be a bit tight to fit this into your day if travelling by boat.
16:00-16:25 Taxi to Iwaki Yumoto Onsen Town
Spend the night at a ryokan or hotel in this quaint onsen town.
There are many traditional family-run ryokan to choose from, such as Koito Ryokan. You could also stay at Spa Resort Hawaiian's – a Hawaii-themed complex of hotels with a water theme-park perfect for kids.
